Every EarthlyNature product starts with the same question: what is this actually made of, and what happens to it after the meal? Here's a plain answer, material by material.
Bagasse (Sugarcane Fiber)
Bagasse is the fibrous pulp left over after sugarcane is pressed for juice — a byproduct that would otherwise be discarded or burned. We mold it into cups, plates, bowls, containers, and compartment trays. It's sturdy enough to hold hot and liquid-heavy food, and it returns to the earth in industrial composting facilities instead of sitting in a landfill for centuries.
Wheat and Rice Fiber
Alongside bagasse, we source tableware molded from wheat straw and rice husk fiber — agricultural byproducts that would otherwise go to waste. These materials perform similarly to bagasse and are used across parts of our plate and bowl lines depending on the manufacturer and product.
Wood and Bamboo
Our utensils (forks, spoons, knives) and some of our cups are made from wood and bamboo rather than molded plant fiber — a different material suited to the thinner, more rigid shapes utensils need. Like our fiber tableware, they're PFAS-free and compostable.
What "PFAS-Free" Means Here
PFAS ("forever chemicals") have historically been used in some disposable tableware for grease and moisture resistance. Every material we carry is sourced and vetted to be free of intentionally added PFAS, tested against the strictest applicable U.S. state standard rather than the minimum.
How We Verify It
We don't take a supplier's word for any of this. Every manufacturer we work with must hold BPI or CMA compostability certification (verified against ASTM D6400 or D6868, the U.S. standards for compostability) and provide FDA Food Contact Substance documentation before we'll sell their products. Full detail on our certification requirements is on our Sustainability & Certifications page.
Where It Comes From
We source from vetted manufacturers in China and India, alongside a smaller line of U.S.-manufactured products. Material and sourcing details are listed accurately on each product page, in line with FTC labeling guidelines.
