At EarthlyNature, sustainability isn't a marketing claim — it's the reason we exist. Every product we carry is chosen because it belongs in the ground, not a landfill. Here's exactly what stands behind that promise.
Our Sourcing Standard
We don't just ask our manufacturing partners if their products are compostable — we require proof.
Every supplier we work with must hold BPI (Biodegradable Products Institute) or CMA (Compost Manufacturing Alliance) certification before we approve them. These are the two most recognized third-party certifications for compostable products in North America, and they exist so that "compostable" is a verified fact, not just a claim printed on packaging.
In addition to compostability certification, every supplier must provide FDA Food Contact Substance documentation, confirming the material is safe for direct contact with food. Certification and food-safety documentation are non-negotiable parts of our supplier approval process — no exceptions, regardless of price or convenience.
What This Means for You
BPI Certified means a product has been independently lab-tested against ASTM D6400 or ASTM D6868 — the official U.S. standards for compostability — and verified to break down fully in industrial composting facilities without leaving toxic residue behind. BPI certification also requires products to be free of intentionally added PFAS ("forever chemicals"), tested and confirmed below strict limits.
CMA Certified is a comparable, independently-verified alternative, confirming that a product performs as claimed across real-world commercial composting environments.
PFAS-Free matters beyond marketing — as of 2026, a dozen U.S. states restrict or ban intentionally added PFAS in food packaging and food service ware. Because we sell across the U.S., every product we carry meets the strictest state standard, not just the minimum required in any one state.
FDA Food Contact Compliance confirms a product has been evaluated for safety when it directly touches food — a separate but equally essential requirement alongside compostability.
In short: when you see a product on EarthlyNature, it has cleared certified compostability testing, food-contact safety review, and PFAS-free verification before it ever reaches our catalog.
For Institutional & Procurement Buyers
We understand that food service operators, distributors, and institutional buyers need documentation, not just assurances. For every product, we can provide:
- BPI or CMA certification documentation confirming compliance with ASTM D6400 / D6868
- FDA Food Contact Substance documentation for direct food-contact safety
- PFAS testing results, confirming compliance with the strictest applicable state requirements
- Material and sourcing information to support your own compliance and procurement records
If your organization requires specific documentation for vendor approval, compliance audits, or sustainability reporting, reach out and we'll provide what you need directly.
A Note on Our U.S.-Made Products
Alongside our imported plant fiber line, EarthlyNature also carries products manufactured in the United States. Where these products combine domestic manufacturing with imported materials or components, we label them accurately and in line with FTC guidelines — so you always know exactly what you're getting, and where it comes from.
Where We Are, and Where We're Headed
We're a young company, and we're building this the right way rather than the fast way. As we formalize certifications across our full catalog, we're working toward displaying verified certification marks directly on every product page. Until then, every claim on this page reflects our actual sourcing requirements — not aspirational marketing.
If you'd like to verify a specific product's certification or request documentation before purchasing, contact us directly — we're glad to provide it.
